With the new administration and the 119th Congress now in session, the Equipment Leasing and Finance Association (ELFA) is poised to make a significant impact in Washington, DC. As the voice of our industry, ELFA remains committed to advocating for the priorities that unite our members.
Your Opportunity to Shape Policy
Every spring, ELFA members gather in Washington to advocate on behalf of the equipment finance and leasing industry. This collective effort helps shape policy decisions that directly impact our business operations. This year's Capitol Connections presents an unprecedented opportunity to amplify our influence.
Maximize Your Impact Through Active Engagement
What truly makes Capitol Connections special is the opportunity for individual engagement. As an attendee, you can exercise your First Amendment right to petition the government through direct meetings with lawmakers and their staff. These face-to-face interactions build crucial relationships that strengthen our industry's voice. By participating in ELFA's grassroots initiatives like Capitol Connections, you contribute to coordinated efforts that demonstrate our industry's unified concerns and priorities. Many members also find value in this event as a networking event, where conversations with colleagues throughout the event lead to connections that last long after everyone has returned home.
Exciting New Format for 2025
We're thrilled to announce an expanded schedule for 2025 that brings together two significant industry events during the same week:
- Monday, June 2 - Best Practices Roundtable (separate registration required)
- Monday Evening - Capitol Connections Opening Reception
- Tuesday, June 3 - Capitol Connections
- Wednesday, June 4 - ELFA Board Meeting
The Best Practices Roundtable is a distinct event with its own registration process. For those attending both events, this scheduling creates a more comprehensive Washington experience while maximizing your time in the capital.
Limited Registration - Act Fast!
Due to venue constraints, we will limit Capitol Connections registration to 135 participants. Registration will open in phases:
- March 27 - Priority registration for ELFA Board members, Business Council Steering Committee members, and last year's attendees
- April 3 - Registration opens for all members
- May 1 - Registration deadline (or earlier if capacity is reached)
A formal email announcement will follow with complete programming information, issue briefings, webinar dates, and registration instructions for Capitol Connections.
What Will We Be Talking About?
ELFA is currently finalizing our advocacy agenda based on our recent public policy survey and evolving legislative developments. If 1071 is still on the legislative docket, you can be sure that will once again be a strong contender. Taxes are also a strong contender with 2025 being such a critical year with major portions of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act expiring. But again, since we don’t know today where that process will be in June, it’s hard to say with certainty what we’ll be asking ELFA members to advocate on. Rest assured though, by early May, we'll have a focused set of priorities to discuss with lawmakers. (We might also have a plan A and a plan B!)
For those eager to engage immediately, ELFA is currently running a grassroots campaign to gain support for legislation that would repeal the data collection requirements of the CFPB's Section 1071 rule. More information can be found about this effort on the grassroots portion of the ELFA website, and your participation in this effort is invaluable.
