Allows Organizations with Transportation Fleets to Benchmark Safety to Help Improve Operations and Elevate Overall CSA Scores
Fort Lauderdale, FL, July 8, 2025 – Fleet Advantage, a leading innovator in specialty financing, fleet data analytics, fleet management services, and life cycle cost management, announced today it has unveiled its newest Safety Index data resource: Truck Reliability and Usage Safety Tracker (TRUST). The new Safety Index, which was previewed by private fleet executives at the recent National Private Truck Council (NPTC) Annual Conference and Exhibition, gives organizations with transportation fleets a way to benchmark their safety scores, and it details fleet-specific KPIs to help organizations improve operations and elevate their overall CSA (Compliance, Safety, Accountability) scores. Download the initial Safety Index here, which is focused primarily on the Top 20 Private Fleets.
The NPTC conference was a natural venue to preview TRUST since it coincided with the start of International Roadcheck, the annual North American commercial vehicle safety campaign. According to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, large truck crashes continue to kill more than 5,000 people per year. However, according to CSA-specific data in Fleet Advantage’s Safety Index, TRUST found that the top private fleets in the U.S. have above-average safety scores.
The new TRUST Safety Index provides comparative BASIC (Behavior Analysis and Safety Improvement Categories) scores, enabling organizations to measure their safety performance against both industry averages and across various peer groups. The data set includes detailed scoring based on inspections, violations, and peer group analysis, offering a holistic view of fleet safety and compliance.
Key features of the TRUST Safety Index include:
- Comparative BASIC Scores: Benchmarking a fleet’s safety performance against national averages and peer groups, with specific insights for sectors including grocery and retail, with predictive scoring to anticipate changes in key categories over the next six months.
- Inspection and Violation Analytics: Track inspection averages and violation totals, including both ticketed and non-ticketed events, compared to national and industry standards.
Data reveals that tire-related violationsaccount for 83% of out-of-service events, underscoring the need for robust tire management programs supported by asset management partners.
- Crash and Accident Monitoring: Monitor crash information and scoring, including accidents per unit, while maintaining focus on overall safety trends.
- Unsafe Driving and Hours of Service Compliance: Access detailed unsafe driving scores and hours of service compliance metrics.
- Out-of-Service and Maintenance Tracking: Analyze out-of-service inspection rates for both vehicles and drivers, with maintenance violation breakdowns highlighting critical trends.
The initial Safety Index highlights that the Top 20 private fleets currently outperform industry averages. However, the benchmarking tool is designed for fleets of all sizes and types (private and for-hire carriers), providing actionable insights for continuous improvement across the sector. Future versions of the TRUST Index report will also highlight and emphasize key benchmarking data and comparative traits for different vertical industries, fleet types, and company sizes. This data will provide comprehensive cross-section visibility into safety performance of organizations industry wide.
“Data analytics and predictive modeling are now significant for improving CSA scores, allowing organizations with fleets to proactively identify risk patterns and address potential issues before they become violations,” said Katerina Jones, Chief Marketing Officer for Fleet Advantage. “However, the real impact comes when these insights are paired with asset management partners, who provide the technology and expertise to monitor fleet health, maintain compliance, and tackle the root causes of common violations—like tire maintenance and hours of service. By combining advanced data analysis with proactive asset management, organizations can shift from a reactive to a preventative approach, driving continuous safety improvements and operational excellence across their fleets.”
