Key Makes $50,000 Commitment to Food for Thought Denver

Posted 07/14/2014

KeyBank’s Colorado market, Key Equipment Finance and the KeyBank Foundation today announced a $50,000 financial commitment to Food For Thought Denver to help the organization expand its reach and achieve financial stability. Together, the three KeyCorp entities will donate $10,000 per year for the next five years to the Colorado nonprofit that is committed to the fight against hunger for metro Denver children.

Food For Thought Denver is a partner agency of Food Bank of the Rockies. Food For Thought Denver has delivered more than 60,000 “PowerSacks” to local families, each one containing enough food to feed a family of four for an entire weekend. Each “PowerSack” costs only $4 due to the savings provided by the Food Bank of the Rockies.

The donation from KeyBank’s Colorado market, Key Equipment Finance and the KeyBank Foundation will help the two-year-old nonprofit achieve financial stability as it works to add more than 300 new families to the roster of those it serves. Currently, Food For Thought Denver volunteers pack and deliver approximately 900 sacks of food every Friday morning during the school year, which are sent home from school with children who would otherwise go hungry over the weekend.

“We are a zero-overhead organization that is run entirely by volunteers, so every penny of this donation will go toward delivering more meals to more families,” said Bob Bell, co-founder of Food For Thought Denver. “We realize there are a lot of great causes in need of financial support, and we are so grateful for this long-term partnership that will help us feed more Denver school children.”

KeyCorp and its affiliates are committed to giving back to organizations that foster economic self-sufficiency, particularly in communities in which KeyBank operates.

“Education is the first step toward economic self-sufficiency, and children who come to school on an empty stomach are at a distinct disadvantage in the classroom,” said Debbie Trujillo, community relations director for KeyBank’s Colorado market. “In just two short years Food For Thought Denver has had a measurable impact on the Denver community, and it is our pleasure to help provide some financial stability as this outstanding organization strives to expand its reach to include more families.”
