Kyla’s first book In This Economy? How Money and Markets Really Work is currently on the New York Times bestseller list.   In the book, she coined the term, vibecession, used to describe the disconnect between robust economic data and a dark outlook.  Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent borrowed it in a Meet the Press appearance.

Raised in Kentucky, Kyla majored in finance, economics, and data analytics at Western Kentucky University.  After summers of trading options and selling Hyundais, Kyla realized there was a space to help people understand finance and budgets so during the pandemic, she took to a whiteboard and social media to create skits and metaphors to explain the markets and the economy.

Kyla is currently working on her second book and has contributed to the New York Times, Financial Times, New York Magazine, Bloomberg, and the Wall Street Journal along with many other major publications.
