Under the Uniform Commercial Code as adopted by Michigan, a possessory lien on goods has priority over a security interest in the goods unless the lien is created by a statute that expressly provides otherwise. MCL § 440.9333.
Cases
"When a person in the ordinary course of his business furnishes services or materials with respect to goods subject to a security interest, a lien upon goods in possession of such person given by statute or rule of law for such materials or services takes priority over a perfected security interest unless the lien is statutory and the statute expressly provides otherwise." In re Lott, 196 B.R. 768 (Bankr. W.D.Mich. 1996)
