ELFA Statement on CFPB Director Nomination

Washington, D.C., June 11, 2026 – The Equipment Leasing & Finance Association (ELFA) President & CEO Leigh Lytle today issued the following statement on President Donald J. Trump’s nomination of Brian Johnson to serve as Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB): 

 “ELFA congratulates Brian Johnson on his nomination to serve as Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). Johnson brings deep experience in financial services policy, regulatory oversight, and consumer protection from his time serving as senior staff on the House Financial Services Committee and as Deputy Director of the CFPB during the first Trump administration. ELFA looks forward to working with Johnson, if confirmed, on policies that protect consumers and provide clear, consistent rules of the road for the equipment finance and leasing industry.” 

If confirmed by the U.S. Senate, Johnson would take over the role from Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought, who has served as acting CFPB director since February 2025.
