Women's Spotlight: Mary K. Trostmann-Tully

What traits have made you successful in the various roles you have held?

My relentless determination and optimistic mindset have been instrumental to my success. Through my refusal to give up easily and my ability to maintain a positive outlook, I’ve overcome many challenges and emerged as a stronger, more resilient individual.

How did you start your career in the Leasing Industry?

I began my Equipment Finance career in early 2021 when I joined Toyota Industries Commercial Finance. Despite being new to the industry, I’ve had the opportunity to work in the IT sector for various fields such as airline, retail, and insurance. I learn something new every day and have enjoyed using my knowledge to support Toyota’s business and digital transformation efforts. It’s been an incredible experience so far, and I cannot wait to see what the future holds!

If you could give your younger self a piece of advice, what would it be?

Sometimes, it’s better to listen before speaking. I used to have so many ideas and spoke without hearing what others had to say. Now, I try to actively listen before voicing my own opinions. I continue to work on this every day!

What’s your mantra and why?

As an IT person, I proudly wear the badge of a nerd. I found my ultimate mantra in an old movie, Galaxy Quest: "Never give up, never surrender!" This powerful phrase has become my guiding light, especially when things get complicated. It helps me refocus my thoughts and gives me the strength to push through any challenge that comes my way.

What extracurricular activities do you take part in?

I love working out! I joined a gym when my little boy was three years old to keep up with his activity level. Working out has become a crucial part of my morning routine and I aim to be active 4-5 times per week. Exercising helps me clear my mind and feel more energized, but it also allows me to spend quality time playing basketball and soccer with my son. Being in shape truly has its benefits!

What motivates you to wake up and go to work?

The thrill of enhancing the experience for our associates and customers. The satisfaction of knowing that I am making a meaningful impact is what drives me forward. I enjoy the opportunity to implement positive changes to make things better for everyone.

Do you have any pets?

We are a dog-loving family and have four rescues. Our oldest dog, a chihuahua, came to our family when she approached us in the front yard while walking my son as a toddler. We couldn't resist her charm and adopted her right away! Along the way, we welcomed a boxer/bulldog mix and a rat terrier into our family. And just when we thought we had reached our limit, my daughter brought home a cute little Louisiana Catahoula leopard puppy this past summer. Our dogs are an integral part of our family, and we love them to bits, but four is the magic number for us!

Where’s your favorite place in the world?

My family and I went to Italy in 2019 and it was the best decision ever! We spent several days in Rome where we explored incredible sites and ate great food. We then embarked on a Mediterranean cruise and visited some of the most amazing cities in the world, like Athens, Pompeii, Malta, Santorini, and Mykonos. It was the experience of a lifetime! With all the craziness of COVID-19, I am so grateful we took that trip because it gave us cherished memories to hold on to forever.
