    The Charity Build-A-Bike!

For most of the children involved, ages 8-12, this will be their first bicycle! You will tangibly make a difference in the lives of underserved children in the San Diego community, as we will be partnering with the San Diego Boys and Girls Club.

    Each child receives:

“Our group had a great time! It was one of the best team events we have held and certainly the most rewarding. Many of the participants have young children, and it inspired them to do their best, knowing that the bikes they were building were going toward such a worthy cause. Thank you for once again for providing a top notch event. ”
    -Mary Ann Rundall – JDSU

You'll be amazed at how energizing this event will be for everyone involved.

    Program Length: 2 hours

Location: We will be utilizing the outdoor space at The Manchester Grand Hyatt named the Seaport Courtyard. This space is ample to split your group into teams of 6-8 and assemble bikes for the children. A nearby grand staircase will serve as the perfect entrance as we invite the children later in the program to receive their bikes. Volunteers will be divided into teams at registration.

    FAQ

Tell me more about the children receiving the bicycles and what they get? For most of the children involved, ages 8 - 12, this will be their first bicycle! We will partner with The San Diego Boys and Girls Club. Each child receives:

Each bicycle is inspected before a child takes it home. Each team builds one or two bicycles.

Will the children be there to receive the bicycles?
Yes! The children will be introduced to the event after the bikes have been built. They do not know they are going to get the bikes, so this makes for a great surprise!

Do the teams receive written or verbal directions?
The teams receive a mix of written and verbal directions.

Do they receive all the parts they need or is there something they have to do to get all the resources they need to build the bike?
Each team is given everything they need to build a bike: bicycle parts, helmets, decorations and more.

    Can everyone participate?
How do you ensure maximum participation for all?

There are a wide variety of roles, so everyone has something to do that they like or are able to do. This allows the event to be exciting as well as accessible to all.

    How long is the program?
Roughly two hours, which gives us a nice event flow.

    What's the ideal team size?
Based on our rigorous unscientific observations we've found the magic number to be 6-8 people on a team. Teams will be assigned at registration.
